Making Dental Care More Accessible for North Carolina’s Group Home Residents
An administrator at a group home organization in Edenton, North Carolina, recently shared how much of a difference Access Dental Care has made for the 29 residents they serve.
Before Access Dental Care, getting to the dentist meant taking a few residents at a time to the UNC Adams School of Dentistry in Chapel Hill, nearly three hours away. The trip meant hours on the road, navigating parking , a busy dental school, and then making the long drive back to Edenton. It also required significant transportation and staff time from the organization.
Today, we bring care to their community. Our team sets up a two-chair dental clinic at the organization's day center. Residents come with their caretakers in smaller groups to a familiar setting. Nurses provide detailed medical histories, while caretakers help support residents and our clinical team throughout treatment. The result is comprehensive dental care without requiring residents to spend most of the day traveling to receive it.
This is how Access Dental Care has been removing barriers for years. Our teams now provide dental care to nearly two-thirds of North Carolina's group home residents.
